Iris ·

Iris · Privacy Policy
Data Processing
Iris is a photo editor. No account is required. It includes no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs, and does not upload photos, edit records, or usage information to developer servers. Photo editing and rendering take place on your device. Optional place lookups and system iCloud or file services are explained below.
Photos and Metadata
On iOS, Iris browses Photos according to your permission, or reads photos you import with the file picker. It reads the image and available metadata, such as capture time, camera model, camera settings, and recorded location, for display, editing, watermarks, and saving. Saving changes or adding a photo requires your action. On macOS, Iris reads files you choose and does not browse Photos.
Local Edit Records
To preserve adjustable edits, Iris stores an editing base, parameters, required LUT or preset resources, imported watermark images, and format versions in local app storage. The iOS app and Photos editing extension share necessary resources and the place-lookup permission through an App Group. Interface preferences, such as histogram visibility, are stored locally. Adjustment data saved to Photos is managed by the system with the photo.
Place Lookups and System Services
On iOS, only when a photo’s place name needs resolving and you have allowed it, Iris sends the photo’s recorded coordinates to Apple Maps for an address. It does not request your current location or send the photo image to the developer. Apple Maps processes requests under its privacy terms: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/apple-maps/. The resulting address is stored locally as an edit metadata snapshot.
iCloud original downloads, Photos synchronization, file providers, and export destinations you choose are managed by their respective systems or services. They are not uploads from Iris to developer servers. The macOS app does not provide online place lookups.
Permissions and Withdrawal
You can change Iris Photos access in system Settings; limited access lets Iris browse only the photos you select. File import remains available if Photos access is denied. Revoking Photos access does not automatically delete editing bases and records already stored by Iris.
Turn off “Allow Place Name Lookups” in Iris Settings to stop future queries. The app and Photos extension share this permission. Existing address snapshots remain unchanged, and Iris asks again before another online lookup. Coordinate display and other editing features do not require this option.
Retention and Deletion
Local edit records and required resources are retained so you can continue editing. Removing an item from the style library does not destroy frozen resources referenced by existing edits. Uninstalling the iOS app removes its local data; restoring a system backup may restore it. Removing the macOS app does not automatically delete its Application Support storage. Photos, exported files, originals, and system backups must be managed in their respective apps or services. Iris has no developer-hosted account or data copy.
Policy Version
Updated October 11, 2026. Applies to Iris 1.0.0. Changes to data handling will be reflected in both the in-app and published policies.
